Minoans who practice human sacrifice & cannibalism (even children) are advanced society cos "women have most prominent roll and they worship goddesses" (not gods). Documentaries about Minoans or Spartans just add bitterness to final conclusion. Even in this time of total erosion of values, going that far, and called yourself a historian. Thus we got documentary in which ".beyond that, Helen is bigger even than a Homer". According to her, history is not linear progress of mankind (with many backward steps), but actually sporadic pop up of some "extrodinary" woman, around whom whole world (read men, God, Universe & everything else) dance like a puppets. Not a single one documentary she made (and Helen of Troy is no exception) didn't go without her pseudo-feminist BS. Since IMDb demands more lines, I will try to explain. I have watched many documentaries & movies on Homer and Trojan war, and I have also watch many of Bettany Huges documentaries about general history, and all I can say about her view on history is that she is for history what Hellen of Troy was for Trojans. As amateur historian, anyone can said to me that I am not authority on this, but nevertheless, I'll make a comment on this "movie".

At first Johnny takes advantage of his captor's kindliness, but ultimately he becomes friends with Cush and even saves his life. Instead, he and the family's team of mules are captured by Blue Coats even worse (to him), the soldiers are black, and the youth suffers the ignominy of taking orders from a former slave his own age, Cush Turner. But a few months after Pa's death, Johnny undertakes a dangerous mission to bring food into besieged Richmond-and maybe avenge his father's honor. When Pa is wounded in action in 1864 and comes home to die, he extracts a promise from Johnny, the book's 14-year-old narrator, to stay on their farm in Virginia and look after the family. The Collier brothers ( My Brother Sam Is Dead ) here paint a strong, affecting picture of the Civil War era, of the grueling work and privations of the home front as well the chaos and carnage of the battlefield. Below, we close-read the names of the new novel’s main characters. Coriolanus believes, with most of the Capitol’s rulers, that he is inherently better than Sejanus because of his noble blood, a conviction cherished by the British aristocracy. But Ballad offers new insight into how the Capitol’s leading families viewed the rest of Panem, especially anyone “district,” like Coriolanus’ rich but lowborn friend, Sejanus. It’s well-known that the ancient Roman games in which condemned criminals were pitted against wild animals in the Colosseum to entertain the public inspired the Hunger Games. Among the novel’s minor characters are classmates of Coriolanus’ named Felix Ravinstill and Pliny Harrington. As a rule, the first names of Capitol residents in Ballad come from classical Greek and Roman culture, and the last names have a British flavor. Mostly set in the Capitol, Ballad serves up many new names from the elite of Panem, and offers some insight into Collins’ inspirations.įirst, some guiding principles. As other Slate contributors have noted, the names in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series are eye-catchingly peculiar and often contain hidden meanings. Collins’ new prequel to The Hunger Games, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the origin story of the trilogy’s villain, Coriolanus Snow, is no exception. Nevertheless, everything that seemed irrelevant at the time would later be a more important aspect that moved the plot forward. Pacing: The story had moments of the ordinary that, while did not drag, did not seem terribly exciting either. There is also a wonderfully dry sense of humour from some of the characters that will make you pause or even laugh to yourself. Writing Style: The word selection is on par for teenagers, but still enjoyable for those who are in an older age bracket. Some of them are particularly interesting such as chapter twenty on page 232. Product: This hardcover novel has titled chapters that include pictures at the top of the page with corresponding call numbers of where the item would be held in the Repository. Once you examine the illustration a bit more closely, you can see various intriguing aspects that mimic the aesthetic of the story. But when powerful items start loosing their magic or go missing, Elizabeth and her new friends need to discover who the thief is before someone gets hurt.Ĭover: The artwork has a mystical element to it that is easily missed at first glance due to the darkened colour palette. Rather than books, it lends out anything from fondue fountains to Marie Antoinette’s wig and, more importantly, items from the Grimm Collection. Synopsis: When Elizabeth gets an afterschool job at the New York Circulating Material Repository, it isn’t quite what she was expecting. |
